Starlight Xpress's MIDI Filter Wheel is a great, compact solution for mobile setups that require the lightest possible wheel and guider. Its off-axis guide (OAG) prism is pre-set to be close to par-focal with most Starlight Xpress (SX) cameras.
The MIDI Carousel
This carousel holds: 7 x 36mm round unmounted filters. Unmounted filters may be up to 5mm thick.
The MIDI Filter Wheel can be both powered and controlled using a single USB cable, meaning that you don't have to carry around an additional power supply. There is also a serial input and this requires a small PP3 style battery if it is used
The Slimline OAG is specially designed to be used with the Lodestar X2 and UltraStar guide cameras, but can also work with other autoguiders as well!
The MIDI Filter Wheel's most important asset is that you can use it together with Starlight Xpress imaging cameras and produce a total back focus distance of 55mm. This is key due to the fact that for many refractors with focal reducers/flatteners, 55mm is the optimal back focus, putting you in the best possible position to take amazing night sky images.
Input and Output Adapters
The standard output adapter ring is a male T-thread (M42 x 0.75mm) threaded version, intended for coupling to an TRIUS PRO series camera such as the PRO-694 or PRO-814, but alternatives are also available. On the input side (telescope) there is a female T-thread (M42 x 0.75mm) adapter and an alternative female 48mm is also supplied with the MIDI filter wheel.
